AGS delivered a complete glazing package for the newly reconstructed Elbert Elementary School in Winter Haven: a $50 million modernization replacing a 1962 campus with a secure, 127,000-square-foot facility designed to serve up to 1,000 students.

The challenge

Students and staff had temporarily relocated to Haines City for two years while the more than 60-year-old campus was rebuilt. Their fixed return date for the 2025–26 school year drove every scheduling decision, with construction remaining on schedule despite the challenges of the 2024 hurricane season.

AGS was responsible for engineering, fabricating and installing more than 6,500 square feet of building envelope across four distinct glazing systems. Each system had to meet Florida Building Code requirements for wind load, water infiltration, air infiltration and thermal performance without delaying adjacent trades.

Our approach

Pre-construction planning centered on detailed shop drawings and engineering submittals, with early coordination of structural openings, embed conditions and trade interfaces. Approved mock-ups validated impact resistance, water penetration and air infiltration performance before installation began.

YKK curtain wall, storefront and entrance door systems were installed alongside WINCO Series 1150 impact-resistant windows. Installation sequencing and logistics planning supported continuous progress as areas became available, with close coordination between AGS, Suffolk and adjacent trades.

After finish trades caused localized damage to primary sealant joints following substantial completion, AGS engaged a Dow field representative, documented responsibility and implemented an internal water-testing protocol to pre-validate repairs ahead of formal owner testing.

Results

The school opened on schedule for the 2025–26 school year.
AGS delivered its full glazing scope in compliance with Florida Building Code performance requirements.
The post-completion sealant issue was resolved within two weeks through documented coordination and manufacturer engagement.
Disciplined pre-construction planning, proactive quality control and precise coordination supported successful closeout.
